Travelescape is an independent travel journal and editorial platform based in India, operated by Nilabh.

This is a small independent project. There is no data team, no marketing department, and no advertising infrastructure. When you write to us with a data request, a real person reads it.

What Information We Collect

Most of Travelescape can be read freely without providing any personal information.

We only collect information in the following specific cases:

Joining the Circle Email address only. No name required. To send monthly reflections and journey updates.

Leaving a comment Name, email, optional website URL. To publish your comment and detect spam.

Site visits IP address, browser type, pages visited. Security, spam prevention, and basic analytics.

We do not collect payment information directly — if journeys involve payment in future, this will be handled by a third-party processor (Stripe or similar) under their own privacy policy.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information only for the purpose it was collected:

To send Circle dispatches if you joined the Circle — one per month, no more.
To display your comment on the post where you left it.
To protect the site from spam and automated abuse.
To understand how readers use the site so we can improve it.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond operating this editorial site.

Cookies

We use only the cookies necessary to operate the site. We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting cookies, or third-party tracking cookies.

Comment cookies — If you leave a comment, your name and email may be saved in a cookie for 1 year so you don't need to re-enter them.
Login session cookie — If you are a Circle member and log in, a session cookie keeps you logged in during your visit.
Analytics — We may use a privacy-respecting analytics tool that does not set persistent tracking cookies.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. The site will still function without them.

Who We Share Data With

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Full stop.

We share data only with the service providers strictly necessary to operate the site:

Cloudways / DigitalOcean — hosting provider. Stores website data on servers.
Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) — email delivery for Circle dispatches. Email address stored here.
Akismet / spam detection — comment data checked against spam databases.
Gravatar (Automattic) — an anonymised hash of your email is sent to check for a profile picture on comments. Their privacy policy.

These providers process data only to support the functioning of the website and are bound by their own privacy commitments.

Embedded Content

Some articles may include embedded content from third-party services (YouTube, Instagram, maps). This content behaves as if you visited those services directly — they may collect data and use cookies independently of Travelescape.

We do not control these services. Where possible we use privacy-enhanced embed modes (e.g. YouTube's no-cookie domain).

Regardless of where you are located, you can contact us at any time to:

Delete — ask us to erase your data ("right to be forgotten").
Unsubscribe — every Circle email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
Object — object to any processing you believe is not justified.

EU / EEA residents (GDPR) — You have enforceable rights under the General Data Protection Regulation. Our lawful basis for processing your email is consent. You can withdraw consent at any time.

California residents (CCPA) — We do not sell personal information. You have the right to know what data is collected and to request deletion. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days.

Data Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Access to the WordPress admin is restricted. We follow standard security practices for a small independent website.

No transmission over the internet is 100% secure. If you have a security concern, please email us directly.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. We will not retroactively reduce your rights without notice.
