Reproduce full articles. Copy images without permission. Use the site for spam, illegal purposes, or commercial scraping. Post or seek anything sexual, anything that could harm or identify a child, or try to make Ask Travelescape break its rules.

Content ownership

The writing, photography and design on Travelescape belong to Nilabh Ranjan, who owns and writes it; guest pieces belong to their writers. The name Travelescape is a registered trademark. Permission requests are always welcome.

Travel disclaimer

Travel information changes. Verify visas, regulations, and safety conditions independently before making any travel decisions.

Pages can change

As the law, technology or our editorial choices change, any page, link or these terms may be updated, moved or removed. We say so on the page when we do. Links that stop working, or stop being secure, are removed in routine checks, with no exceptions.

About Travelescape

Travelescape is an independent travel journal and editorial platform that publishes travel essays, reflections, and related content. It is owned and run by one person, Nilabh Ranjan, in Bangalore, India, not a company. Write to nilabh@travelescape.in.

Use of the Website

You may use Travelescape freely for personal, non-commercial purposes.

You agree not to:

Misuse the website or attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of it
Disrupt or interfere with the site's operation or infrastructure
Use the website for any unlawful, harmful, or fraudulent purpose
Scrape, copy, or reproduce content at scale without permission
Impersonate Travelescape or its author

We reserve the right to restrict or terminate access to users who violate these terms, without notice.

Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, all content on Travelescape belongs to Nilabh Ranjan, who owns and writes Travelescape (pieces by guest writers belong to them, under the Contributor Terms). This includes:

Articles, essays, and written reflections
Photography and images
Graphics, design, and visual identity
Website structure and code
You may read and share links to articles freely.
You may quote small portions with clear attribution to Travelescape.
You may not reproduce full articles or substantial portions without written permission.
You may not copy, download or republish images without permission.
You may not republish content on other websites or platforms without consent.

Permission requests are welcome, each considered on its own. Write to nilabh@travelescape.in.

The Travelescape Name and Marks

Travelescape® is a registered trademark of Nilabh Ranjan in India (Reg. No. 5570252, Class 39): travel information and related travel services. The name, the "te." mark, the Travelescape wordmark and the site's drawn landscapes make up its identity.

You may not use them, or anything confusingly similar, for your own website, social account, business, product, event or domain name, or in any way that suggests you are Travelescape or connected with it.
You may name Travelescape when you write about it, review it or link to it. For press and features, the logos are in the press kit.

Comments and Reader Contributions

Readers can comment on posts, and answer and reply in community discussions at /community/. Every comment and reply is read before it appears, and Travelescape may decline any without giving a reason. Published ones show the name the writer gave (in discussions, the first name and, if given, the city), the date and the text, never the email address. Comments left before September 2026 are kept under their posts the same way. By commenting or replying you allow Travelescape to publish what you wrote on that page. Discussions follow the house rules on the Community page.

Travelescape may remove comments and replies at its discretion. If you left one and would like it removed, write to nilabh@travelescape.in.

External Links and Embedded Content

Travelescape may include links to external websites or embedded content such as videos, maps, or social media posts. These services are not controlled by Travelescape.

We are not responsible for:

The content, accuracy, or availability of third-party websites
Their privacy policies or data practices
Any products, services, or advice offered by them

Links to external sites are provided for convenience. Inclusion of a link does not imply endorsement.

Partner and sponsored links. Travelescape does not sell advertising space. Some pages carry links to travel companies under an arrangement with us; they are marked as sponsored for search engines, and we accept them only for legitimate travel services, never for betting, money games or anything unlawful. Any affiliate link we use will be for something we have used ourselves, and labelled. Like any page, these may change or be removed (see below).

Link health. Our system checks the links on every page of the site routinely. A link that no longer works is removed: the page is gone (for example a 404), the site does not respond, its connection is not secure, or it now leads to a different site from the one we linked. The words around it stay. There are no exceptions: sponsored and partner links, and links in contributors' pieces, are treated exactly the same, and a removed link is not put back automatically if the site recovers.

Travel Information Disclaimer

Travelescape publishes personal travel experiences, reflections, and informational content. This is not professional travel advice.

Travel conditions change. Regulations, safety, visas, transport, and costs may differ significantly from what is described. Always verify independently before making travel decisions.

In particular, always verify before travel:

Visa and entry requirements for your nationality
Current safety and travel advisories
Local laws and regulations
Health requirements and vaccination recommendations
Transport schedules, costs, and availability

Travelescape accepts no liability for decisions made based on content published on the site.

Journeys & Other Services

The Unscripted Circle, Travelescape's former free membership, has closed. Travelescape itself offers no memberships, accounts or paid services.

Journeys and private curation are offered separately through TE Journeys, under its own terms. If Travelescape introduces other services in future, separate terms will apply and will be clearly communicated at that time.

How the Site and Its Content Change

Travelescape is a living journal, not a fixed archive. We may update, correct, shorten, retitle, move, archive or remove any page, and any link, image or embed in it, at any time. Usually that happens for one of these reasons:

The law changes. If a law in India, or a rule, order or ruling made under it, affects something we have published, we change or remove it. For example, since the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, no page here promotes online betting or money games.
Technology changes. A service we rely on closes or changes its rules, a format stops working, or a safer way of doing something appears. We adapt the site and its pages.
Links stop working. Dead, unresponsive, insecure or redirected links are removed in our routine checks (see Link health, above).
The facts change. Guides are checked and refreshed; outdated details are corrected or marked with the year they were true.
We decide to. Travelescape is an independent journal. Off-topic, outdated, misleading or low-quality pages may be removed, and the site's direction may change.

When we change a page, we usually keep its address and say on the page what changed and when. Where we can, we tell the writer or partner concerned first, but we are not obliged to. No payment, arrangement or earlier agreement obliges us to keep a page, a link or any wording that the law, our standards or these terms no longer allow.

Limitation of Liability

Travelescape is provided for informational and editorial purposes. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law:

Travelescape makes no warranties, express or implied, about the accuracy or completeness of content
Travelescape is not liable for any loss, damage, or inconvenience arising from use of the website
Travelescape is not liable for reliance on any travel information published on the site
Travelescape is not responsible for issues arising from third-party websites linked from the site

Use of the website is at your own discretion and risk.

Privacy

Your use of Travelescape is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what information may be collected, how it is used, and your rights over it.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. For users in other jurisdictions, local consumer protection laws may apply in addition to these terms.

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.

Ask Travelescape

Ask Travelescape, on the Search page, answers travel questions from what Travelescape's writers and community have written. An AI model (Claude, made by Anthropic) puts each answer together from our pages, names who wrote what and when, and links to the pages. Check the latest on the web adds a separate answer from current public web pages, labelled as such, with its sources listed.

A starting point, not advice. An AI can be wrong, and travel facts change. The pages are the source: check prices, rules, permits, health and safety with the official source before you rely on them. Travelescape is not responsible for decisions made on an answer (section 09).
For travel questions. Don't use it to seek anything sexual, harmful or illegal, to find someone's private details, or to make it break its rules. Such questions are turned away, and Travelescape may limit or switch off Ask for anyone, at any time.
Keep your details out of it. Don't type phone numbers, email addresses or ID numbers into a question; we take them out before a question is read. What happens to a question is in the Privacy Policy.
Not an emergency service. If anyone is in danger, call 112 in India (ambulance 108). If you are thinking about hurting yourself, call Tele-MANAS on 14416: free, at any hour.

Children and Safety

Travelescape is written for adults and families, and children read it too. To keep it safe:

Nothing sexual, nothing that endangers a child. We never publish sexual content, or anything that sexualises, endangers or mocks a child. Anything of the kind sent to us, in a comment, a note, a reply or a question, is removed and not kept, and reported to the authorities where the law requires it.
Children are not identified without consent. Nothing that could identify a child (a face, a name, a school, an exact age with a place) appears on Travelescape without a parent's or guardian's consent, and it comes down at once if they ask.
Read before it appears. Every comment, discussion reply and community note is read by a person before it is published, and we decline anything unsafe without giving a reason.
Under 18? Please ask a parent or guardian before you comment, share a note or join the essay list.
Report a concern. If anything on Travelescape worries you about a child's safety, or anyone's, write to nilabh@travelescape.in with the page's address. We take it down while we look into it.

Changes to These Terms

Travelescape may update these Terms of Service when the site, the law, technology or our practices change. The date at the top of this page shows the current version, and an important change is also noted where it applies.

Continued use of the website after changes have been posted means you accept the revised terms.
